Funding Committee Chairs for Health and Social Care Delivery Research Programme

The Director of the NIHR Health and Social Care Delivery Research (HSDR) Programme, Professor Kathy Rowan, is looking to appoint two Funding Committee Chairs for the HSDR Funding Committee. It is a great opportunity to help shape an innovative and growing NIHR Programme.

Successful candidates will be leaders in the field of health and/or social care services research. These are new posts and each Chair will lead on three full Funding Committee meetings per year, plus occasional ad hoc meetings as needed.

As a Funding Committee Chair you will be responsible for leading and organising the commissioning of a large portfolio of research. Other responsibilities will include contributing to the strategic development of the HSDR Programme and representing the Programme Director, when required.

Successful candidates will have enthusiasm for, and experience of, health and social care research, including research methods; excellent communication and negotiating skills; a proven ability to chair large committees; and a track record of research leadership and involvement in commissioning research.

Time commitment

The overall time commitment is estimated to be approximately 1.5 days per week which includes preparation for, and attendance at, meetings. This commitment will vary between weeks and therefore some flexibility is required. A Funding Committee meeting schedule will be provided with dates for the coming year.

Honorarium

There is an honorarium of £30,000 associated with this role, which is covered by the NIHR policy on honoraria.

Tenure

The appointments will be, initially, for three years’ duration, with a review after two years and for a possible extension for a further two years.
