Western Health and Social Care Trust
On Friday 20 May 2016 the Western Trust marked International Clinical Trials Day. The Research & Development Department hosted information stands in Altnagelvin, Omagh and South West Acute Hospitals to encourage staff, patients and their carers to find out more about clinical research:
Dr Maurice O’Kane, Western Trust Director for Research and Development said: “Clinical trials are essential for developing better tests and treatments for disease. Patients who participate in clinical trials have an opportunity to access cutting edge developments. The Western Trust is strongly committed to clinical research and has an active research programme across a wide range of disciplines with around 130 studies on-going at any one time and approximately 50 new studies starting every year.”
The Trust is also supporting the Public Health Agency (PHA) campaign to promote the fact that it’s “OK to Ask” about clinical research. We will be encouraging patients with a condition and are undergoing treatment, to ask their Nurse / Doctor about clinical trials or other research studies.
