The Dementia Analytics Research User Group (DARUG) is a multi-disciplinary, cross-sectoral group comprising of
- healthcare professionals & commissioners
- researchers
- data analytics experts
- community & voluntary staff;
- SMEs/industry vendors
- people living with dementia/carers.
Established in 2018, its role was to commission, oversee and disseminate outcomes from twelve dementia data analytics projects and a suite of ten research studies aimed at improving the understanding of dementia in Northern Ireland.
It is also responsible for the early developments of the General Practice Intelligence Platform (GPIP).
To date, the DARUG has sought to ensure that a broad base of user groups could access and make best use of findings generated via the Dementia eHealth and Data Analytics Pathfinder Programme (‘the Programme’)–an initiative funded jointly by the Northern Ireland Executive Office, Atlantic Philanthropies and the Department for Health in Northern Ireland.
The DARUG identified 6 key priority areas that would shape the focus and direction of the Programme, namely:
- Information on Dementia Prevalence
- Data on Dementia Diagnosis
- Dementia Carers
- Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI)
- Learning Disability& Downs Syndrome
- Dementia Patient Journey
DARUG projects were established via two routes –either by invitation from the DARUG to submit an initial exploratory Scoping Project(<£10k) prior to a Full Project Application, or via an Open Call for Full ProjectApplications(<£100k). In both cases projects were assessed by the DARUG using an agreed set of evaluation criteria. Please find the summaries from the projects here.
