The Northern Ireland Public Health Research Network (NIPHRN) recently hosted a ‘Creative communications and inclusivity in PPI: Hearing the voice of everyone’ event with colleagues in the Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) PPI and Ulster University (UU) Network, as part of the PPI Ignite Network’s National PPI Festival.
Dr Alan McMichael, PPI Lead for Health and Social Care, presented at the event of the ongoing work within HSC R&D Division on PPI. Dr McMichael also discussed ResearchFish data, which highlighted what aspects of PPI researchers find rewarding, challenging and what stage of the research cycle PPI was most likely to be included in.
Also, he discussed the early stages of a priority setting exercise, which aims to comprehensively assess the enablers and barriers to increase PPI in Northern Ireland.
Dr McMichael concluded his talk by discussing the support HSC R&D Division offers to researchers, PPI contributors and members of the public. One area he highlighted was the PPI in Research Support Small Grant Scheme.
Dr McMichael said: “I strongly encourage researchers, health professionals or patient and public representatives working in the field of Health and Social Care Research in Northern Ireland to consider applying for the Research Support Small Grant Scheme. The scheme supports and encourages innovative practice in the delivery of PPI through the development of new ways of working with patients, carers and the public, and in particular, to further develop PPI with underserved groups and communities.”
