The NICRN celebrated International Clinical Trials Day 2026, on Wednesday the 20th of May across the RVH, BCH and RJMS.


Staff came together at the Western Health and Social Care Trust to celebrate the power of research. A special tea party was held to recognise the vital role clinical trials play across the Trust and to say a heartfelt thank-you to everyone involved in making this important work possible.
The 2026 theme “Stronger Together: Advanced Therapy Clinical Trials Without Borders”, highlights the value of collaboration and innovation in developing future treatments.
The Trust is proud to support research that helps improve healthcare outcomes for our communities.
Our Research Teams are celebrating this event at Antrim Area Hospital with staff, service users and patients.

The Northern Ireland Cancer Trials Network highlighted Clinical trials and what they achieve for better health outcomes and care for people, whilst promoting Be Part of Research.
Leukaemia & Lymphoma NI charity joined NI Cancer Trials in Belfast City Hospital to mark International Clinical Trials Day and their investment in clinical research for blood cancer patients.
On #InternationalClinicalTrialsDay, the Primary Care Research team attended two Practice-Based Learning events with the Northern GP Federation Support Unit, in Coleraine and Ballymena. We are so grateful to share this time with General Practice colleagues and discuss the future of research in Primary Care across Northern Ireland. With around 90% of NHS patient interactions taking place in General Practice, research in Primary Care is essential to ensure studies reflect the real experiences and needs of our communities. This year’s theme, Research Rising, recognises how advances in knowledge, skills, treatments, and technology continue to improve healthcare and patient outcomes. “When research rises, we all rise together." HSC Industry Engagement Host UK Commercial Research Delivery Centre Director Visit
This week the HSC Industry Engagement team introduced Jennifer Crooks, Commercial Research Delivery Centre (CRDC) Network Operational Director, to Northern Ireland (NI) on International Clinical Trials Day. Jenny was visiting local teams to learn how recent investments have strengthened and enabled delivery of industry sponsored clinical trials at two Health Trust located purpose-built Research and Innovation Centres.
Stephanie Kelly (South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust R&D Manager) presented the facilities and trial activities at the Ulster Hospital Clinical Trials Centre. They also visited C-TRIC (C-TRIC) on the Altnagelvin Hospital site where Diane Mackey (Western Health & Social Care Trust R&D Manager) discussed the increasing number of clinical trials and opportunities for growth and public and personal involvement (#PPI) in research.
