Building Research Partnerships: Shared learning in action

In Partnership with the Northern Ireland Cancer Trials Network (NICTN), we recently hosted an in-person ‘Building Research Partnerships’ workshop at Clifton House in Belfast. This was our first in-person workshop since 2019 and we hope this will once again become an annual event.

‘Building Research Partnerships’ is designed for both patients, carers and members of the public who are involved in or are interested in becoming involved as public partners in research, and researchers who want to learn more about how to implement Personal and Public Involvement (PPI) through-out the research cycle, and build more effective PPI partnerships.

We were therefore delighted to have a mix of public contributors, health and social care staff, and university researchers attend on the day and are delighted with the positive feedback that we received. Attendees really valued the opportunity for shared learning and networking.

With special thanks to Margaret Grayson (member of PIER) for leading the session, to Ruth Boyd (Cancer Research UK Senior Research Nurse/NICTN PPI Lead) and Dr Alan McMichael (PPI Lead for HSC Research, HSC R&D Division) for facilitating our table discussions, and to Cara McClure and Michael Cunningham (HSC R&D Division) for helping to organise the workshop.
