PIER Member Encourages Continued Research at CRUK Anniversary Reception

Their Majesties The King and Queen hosted a reception on Tuesday 2 June at St James’s Palace to begin celebrations of 125 years of Cancer Research UK’s impact, recognising the charity’s long-standing contribution to cancer research and its impact on people affected by cancer in the UK and around the world.

Joining Their Majesties at the reception were The Princess of Wales and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. The Duke is Joint President of Cancer Research UK, alongside Princess Alexandra and King Charles III is patron of Cancer Research UK.

The event brought together researchers, clinicians, volunteers, supporters and partners, alongside high-profile supporters Davina McCall, Hannah Fry, Adele Roberts and Ronan and Storm Keating.

Margaret Grayson - HSC R&D Public Involvement Enhancing Research (PIER) member, NI Cancer Research Consumer Forum member and Cancer Research UK patient advocate - was one of the guests at the reception, celebrating the charity’s 125th anniversary.  The reception reflected both how far cancer research has come, and why continued research remains vital.

Margaret was honoured to meet Their Majesties The King and Queen, the Princess of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester:

“Having been involved with CRUK’s work and research for over a decade, it was a privilege to be invited to the reception, joining with other patients, researchers and supporters to mark this important milestone. I was delighted to have the opportunity to share my experience of research and patient involvement with Their Majesties on what was a truly memorable evening, and one that will hopefully encourage continued research in the coming years. This lifesaving research will benefit not only patients in NI but throughout the world.”
