18 May 2021 - UKRI-NIHR Housing and Social Care Workshop

Event Date:
2021-05-18

UKRI in partnership with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) are keen to increase the volume and impact of high-quality research focused on housing and social care and seek expressions of interest for attendance at a one-day virtual workshop on Tuesday 18 May. The workshop will be an opportunity to think creatively about the current state of knowledge in this area, identify limitations in current approaches, identify research challenges, and inform future research funding and commissioning plans.

The workshop is open to people of all disciplines who are interested in working, or are currently working in research and practice relating to housing and social care, including academics, clinicians, professional and third sector organisations, national policymakers, and members of the social care and housing community. We are committed to a policy of equal opportunities, and encourage applications from women, those with a disability, members of ethnic minority groups, and other groups who are currently under-represented at UKRI’s events.

The workshop will be focussed around the following topics:

  • Maintaining independence at home
  • Maintaining health within the home
  • Enabling care readiness through innovative design of new buildings and integration of technologies (beyond interventions in individual homes)
  • Enabling informed decisions on housing and care choices through the design of new tools and collection of data

Cross-cutting themes of importance include:

  • Co-production with social care, housing, technology providers and people with lived experience
  • Affordability
  • Sustainability
  • Equality and Diversity
  • Ethics
