7 Sep 2022 - NIPHRN Seminar From Northern Ireland to Southern Africa: Adaptation and evaluation of a gender transformative public health intervention

Event Date:
Wednesday 7th September 2022 1.00 to 2.00pm

Dr Áine Aventin

Lecturer Sexual and Reproductive Health, School of Nursing & Midwifery, Queen’s University Belfast

Dr Áine Aventin is a Lecturer at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Queen’s University Belfast. A social psychologist and social research methodologist, she specialises in the application of mixed methods research to optimise the development, evaluation, and implementation of complex behavioural interventions in health and educational settings. Her research focuses on global challenges in sexual and reproductive health.

Evidence-based public health interventions are increasingly being implemented with new populations and in new contexts. Yet the processes used to optimise adaptation of these interventions for new settings are rarely reported. Reflecting on a project being conducted in collaboration with colleagues at Stellenbosch University South Africa, Dr Aventin will outline an approach to co-producing adapted versions of an existing Northern Ireland sexual and reproductive health intervention for use in southern Africa. She will offer considerations for health researchers involved in similar work.
