Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) in Action -

The PPI Ignite Network

Prof Thilo Kroll, Professor of Health Systems Management,  University College Dublin

The PPI Ignite Network promotes excellence and inspires innovation in public and patient involvement (PPI) in health and social care research in Ireland.  The Network aims to provide a shared voice for PPI across Ireland, to change the research culture, an important contributor to improving health outcomes for the public. The Network is based at seven universities in Ireland, including University College Dublin, which Prof Kroll leads. It is funded by the HRB and ICR, has a National Programme Office at NUI Galway and 10 national partners and 53 local partners.

Prof Kroll will talk on some of the many events and programmes the Network has engaged in including the first National PPI Festival held October 2022, how to get involved in PPI opportunities, resources and what these PPI opportunities can bring to research. Further Prof Kroll will speak on the 4 values needed to enable patient and public involvement at the pre-commencement stage of research projects.

Prof Kroll is Professor of Health Systems Management, University College Dublin. As well as being passionate about community and participatory research, he is keen to promote systems- and design-thinking in research, education and practice. Before coming to Ireland in 2016, Prof Kroll held a Personal Chair as Professor of Disability and Public Health at University of Dundee and served as the Co-Director of the interdisciplinary Social Dimensions of Health Institute (SDHI) of Universities of Dundee and St Andrews in the UK.
