Optimising recruitment for adults with learning disability and type 2 diabetes

Researchers at Ulster University, Northern Ireland are testing an education programme to help people with learning disabilities manage their diabetes.

Professor Lawrence Taggart with colleagues in England and Scotland want to find the best way to help people with a learning or intellectual disability who have Type 2 Diabetes. They will test whether providing an education programme called DESMOND-ID to manage their diabetes and maintain a healthier lifestyle will help people to manage their blood sugar and stay healthier in the future. The study was designed with the help of people who have a learning disability from CAN, a local intellectual disability charity in NI who will continue to support the study along with PPI stakeholders from Diabetes UK and Mencap
