What: we are planning to update some of the processes related to the submission of research amendments to health and social care research studies taking place in Northern Ireland.
Who: anyone carrying out health and social care research with a participating organisation in Northern Ireland and who makes an amendment to their study.
When: any new amendments dated from Monday 31 March 2025.
What's changing
To streamline the processes for submission of research amendments to health and social care research when an organisation in Northern Ireland is involved, we are making two changes:
1. Removal of the role of the Northern Ireland Coordinating Centre (Northern Ireland Research Gateway) in setting the 35-day amendment implementation timeline for Northern Ireland.
- The implementation timeline will be defined by the research sponsor and communicated to participating Northern Ireland organisations in the relevant amendment cover letter to be emailed along with the amendment pack.
2. Alignment of the submission process for both multi-centre and single-centre amendments.
- Both multi-centre and single-centre amendments will be emailed by the sponsor to both the R&D Office and to the Principal Investigator/delivery team of each participating Northern Ireland organisation.
When does the change take effect?
It is planned that this change will be implemented for new amendments that impact participating organisations in Northern Ireland dated from Monday 31 March 2025. The guidance within the amendment tool and the relevant email template to share amendments will be updated to align with the change and will be available online by this date. You should ensure that you use the most current amendment tool available from IRAS here, and the most current email to share the amendment with participating organisations in Northern Ireland here.
